for the weekend of June 30-July 4, 2010, and beyond

The Great American Trailer Park Musical – As North Carolina joblessness hovers around 10%, and a Congressional stalemate threatens to cut off unemployment benefits for 1.2 million Americans, Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy presents a timely, satirical look at the plight of the economic underclass in America. Oh wait, my mistake. It’s actually “a colorful and comedic chorus of trailer park neighbors who share their trailer trash talkin’, astroturf lovin’ and spray cheese eatin’ life”. This weekend: Wednesday-Saturday 8:00, Sunday 3:00. Continues through July 11. Progress Energy Center, Raleigh.

!Wanted! – Asheville’s Runaway Circus comes to town hosted by Paperhand Puppet. One night only: Thursday 7:30. Paperhand Puppet’s performance space, Saxapahaw.

God’s Country – Steven Dietz docudrama about the white supremacist movement in the 1980s. This weekend: Thursday-Friday 8:00. Cary Academy’s Fine & Performing Arts Center, Cary. Closes Friday.

Valparaiso – Don DeLillo’s dark comedy, presented by FATE (Free Association Theatre Ensemble). This weekend: Thursday-Saturday 8:00. Closes Saturday. Common Ground Theatre, Durham.
