Alice’s Adventures Underground – An adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s original version of the Alice story, presented by kids in Common Ground’s Performing Arts Camp. Special guests: TAFFY (Transactors for Families). This weekend only: Saturday 11:00 and 1:00. Common Ground Theatre, Durham.
Islands Unknown – Paperhand Puppet Intervention returns with its annual outdoor summer show, this time “an epic odyssey that will take us to the depths of the imagination and the very ends of the earth… in 3-D!” Bring the kids, bring the adults, bring everybody. (Also bring something to sit on and plenty of bug repellent.) This weekend: Friday-Sunday 7:00 Pre-show starts at 6:20. Continues through September 6. Forest Theatre, UNC Campus, Chapel Hill.
Overtones – A 1916 play by Alice Gerstenberg, plus a curtain-raiser by Christopher Durang, presented by OdysseyStage Theatre. Wednesday afternoons 3:00 through August 25. Spice Street Restaurant, University Mall, Chapel Hill.
The Secret Garden – Musical adaptation of the Frances Hodgson Burnett novel, presented by Young People’s Performing Company. This weekend: Friday and Saturday 7:30. Arts Council Building, Durham.
FATE (Free Association Theatre Company) holds auditions for its 2011 season as well as completion casting for its November production of Marat/Sade, Friday August 13, 5:00-9:00, at the Herb Young Community Center, Cary; and Saturday August 14, 9:00-5:00 in the Dogwood Room, Bond Park Community Center, Cary.
