Over the River and Through the Woods – Cary Players presents an Italian-American family comedy, from the author of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. This weekend: Friday and Saturday 8:00, Sunday 3:00. Continues through October 10. Page Walker Arts Center, Cary.

Pandemonium – From the creators of Stomp, an evening of rhythm and physical theatre by the Lost and Found Orchestra using everyday objects. This weekend only: Wednesday-Thursday 7:30, Friday 8:00, Saturday 2:00 and 8:00, Sunday 2:00 and 7:30. Memorial Auditorium, Raleigh.

Playground – Distillery Theatre’s world premiere of Jonathan Fitt’s drama about child brides, based on the true story of Nujood Ali. This weekend: Thursday-Saturday 7:30, Sunday 2:00. Runs through October 10. The Murphey School, Raleigh.

Sarafina! – Mbongeni Ngema’s musical about Soweto high school students’ struggle against South Africa’s apartheid policies, presented by the NCCU Department of Theatre. This weekend: Friday and Saturday 8:00, Sunday 2:00. Continues through October 10. University Theater, NCCU Campus, Durham.

Suspense! – Transactors presents five different improvised episodes of horror, mystery, thriller, and sci-fi chillers that are guaranteed to leave you in …………….suspense! One show only: Friday 8:oo. The ArtsCenter, Carrboro.

Twelfth Night or What You Will – Déjà vu all over again! Shakespeare’s tale of shipwrecks, separated twins, wise fools, mistaken identity, and gender confusion gets its second local production in as many months — this time indoors! This weekend only: Thursday-Friday 7:30, Saturday 2:00 and 7:30, Sunday 2:00. Stewart Theatre, NC State Campus, Raleigh.

The Winter’s Tale – Shakespeare’s bear-threatened romance presented by Bare [!] Theatre and The Delta Boys. This weekend: Thursday-Saturday 8:00, Sunday 2:00. Common Ground Theatre, Durham. Continues next weekend at Sertoma Amphitheatre, Cary.

As You Like It – Shakespeare’s pastoral romantic comedy crowd pleaser, presented by Playmakers Rep. This week: Tuesday-Saturday 7:30. Matinees: Thursday 10:30, Saturday and Sunday 2:00. Runs through October 10. Paul Green Theatre, UNC Campus, Chapel Hill.

Chicago – Kander and Ebb’s Prohibition-era musical about celebrity criminals, based on the 1926 play by Maurine Dallas Watkins. This weekend: Thursday 2:00 and 7:00, Friday and Saturday 8:00, Sunday 2:00. Closes Sunday. Temple Theatre, Sanford.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) – The Reduced Shakespeare Company’s perennial spoof gets yet another area staging, this time by Theatre in the Park. This weekend: Friday and Saturday 7:30, Sunday 3:00. Closes Sunday. Theatre in the Park, Raleigh.

Right Place, Right Time – A comedy about “contemporary relationships”, presented by Stillwater Theatre. This weekend: Tuesday-Saturday 8:00, Sunday 3:00. Closes Sunday. Studio Theatre, Jones Hall, Meredith College, Raleigh.
