Blue – A woman has to choose between her husband and a very unusual circus performer in a new work by Raleigh playwright Kelly Doyle. Thursday-Saturday 7:30, Sunday 2:00. Continues through January 30. Burning Coal Theatre, Murphey School, Raleigh.
The Lion King – Spider-Man isn’t the first Julie Taymor musical to experience a few problems before opening. Tuesday-Thursday 7:30, Friday 8:00, Saturday 2:00 and 8:00, Sunday 1:00 and 6:30. Continues through January 30. DPAC, Durham.
The Retreat – The literary careers of Emily Dickinson, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Stephen King, Anaïs Nin, and Dr. Seuss intersect at a fictional writer’s retreat, in a new play by Chapel Hill’s Mark Cornell, presented by Free Association Theater Ensemble. Pauper Players – Auditions for All Shook Up, an Elvis Jukebox musical (loosely) based on Twelfth Night. Auditions open to general public. Tuesday and Wednesday, Hill Hall, UNC Campus, Chapel Hill.
