The Serpent’s Egg – Paperhand Puppet Intervention returns with its 12th annual new outdoor giant puppet extravaganza. This week: Friday-Sunday 7:00 (with a 6:20 preshow). Continues through September 5 at Forest Theater, UNC Campus, Chapel Hill.

West Side Story – The 1957 musical, presented by Clayton Youth Theater. This week only: Friday 7:30, Saturday 2:00 and 7:30. Closes Saturday. Clayton Center, Clayton.

Wonder of the World – A woman takes off on a journey of self discovery in David Lindsey-Abaire’s comedy from 2000, presented by Burning Coal’s Second Stage in association with the Delta Boys. This week: Thursday and Friday 7:30, Sunday 2:00. (No show on Saturday.) Continues through August 14. The Murphey School, Raleigh.

King of Hearts – Young People’s Performing Company presents the musical adaptation of the 1966 movie. This week: Friday and Saturday 7:30. Closes Saturday. Durham Arts Council, Durham.
