In the Next Room (or the vibrator play) – Sarah Ruhl’s comedy about an electrifying 19th century medical breakthrough in the treatment of “female hysteria”. Directed by Vivienne Benesch. Jane Eyre – Charlotte Brontë’s tale of an orphan turned governess, adapted for the stage by Polly Teale. Directed by Kenny Gannon. This week: Wednesday-Saturday 7:30. Continues through October 1. Leggett Theater, Peace College Campus, Raleigh.
A Steady Rain – Duke’s student-run Wendell Theater presents the Keith Huff drama about two Chicago cops who make some extremely wrong choices. Directed by Jay O’Berski. This week only: Thursday-Saturday 8:00, Brody Theater, Duke East Campus, Durham.
Enron – Burning Coal Theatre presents the musical by Lucy Prebble about the rise and fall of Enron’s financial empire. Directed by Jerome Davis. This week: Thursday-Saturday 7:30, Sunday 2:00. (Thursday show sold out.) Closes Sunday. The Murphey School, Raleigh.
Experiment 1: Taboo Conversations – The Distillery launches its Season of Experiments with a collaborative evening of five scenes about five very different characters. This week: Thursday-Saturday 8:00. Continues through October 1. The Distillery, West Morgan Street, Raleigh.
Fat Pig – Things don’t go well when a man’s co-workers discover he is dating a plus-size woman. Free Association Theatre Ensemble presents the 2004 Neil Labute play, directed by Leslie A. Pless. This week: Thursday-Saturday 8:00. Closes Saturday. FATE Space, Grande Heights Drive, Cary.
Glass – Who else but Little Green Pig would attempt a theatrical mash-up of Tennessee William’s The Glass Menagerie and J.D. Salinger’s Glass family? Jay O’Berski directs a cast of LGP veterans. This week: Thursday-Saturday 8:00. Closes Saturday. Common Ground Theatre, Durham.
Guys and Dolls – Temple Theatre stages the 1950 musical based on stories by Damon Runyon. Directed by Peggy Taphorn. This week: Thursday 2:00 and 7:00, Friday and Saturday 8:00, Sunday 2:00. Continues through October 2. Temple Theatre, Sanford.
Macbeth – Shakespeare’s tale of bloody ambition, presented by North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre and directed by Pete Comperatore. This week: Friday and Saturday 8:00, Sunday 3:00. Closes Sunday. NRACT, Leadmine Road, Raleigh.
The Secret Garden – Musical based on the Frances Hodgson Burnett book, presented by The Justice Theatre Project. Directed by Deb Royals. This week: Friday 8:00, Saturday 3:00 and 8:00, Sunday 2:00.
