Herald MF Jones is back!
And for one night only he’s patrolling the skies over Saxapahaw instead of Jade City!
The caped crusader of Jade City Chronicles, which played to sold-out houses at Manbites Dog last spring, returns for one very special night this Friday November 4, when the Haw River Ballroom hosts Jade City: A Green Cape Affair.
The event is a fundraiser for the production of the first ever serialized African American superhero radio drama, which will air on WUNC’s The State of Things later this fall. Created by Jade City playwright Howard Craft and State of Things host Frank Stasio, The Jade City Pharaoh will chronicle the ongoing adventures of the reluctant superhero and his battles against dastardly and charismatic villains.
Friday’s Green Cape Affair will include a live onstage radio drama performance complete with audience participation, sound effects, a dinner theater option, and more, with help from local artists like the Sacrificial Poets Portraits of a Revolution, Kim Arrington, Franco and Shirlette and the Dynamite Brothers. The organizers hope to raise enough Friday night to cover production costs for the entire season of the show.
Oh, and did we mention Frank Stasio will be wearing tights and a cape?
Tickets — which start at a totally worth it $25 (Stasio in tights!!) — are still available, but we suspect not for much longer, so don’t wait!
