* Dolly Wilde’s Picture Show – Oscar Wilde’s “identical niece” takes on the 20th Century in a multimedia story presented by The Process Series. Directed by Rebecca Nesvet. This week only: Thursday and Friday 8:00. Studio 6, Swain Hall, UNC Campus, Chapel Hill.

Hairspray – John Waters opines on the state of early 1960’s American racial relations in the stage musical version of one of his least depraved movies. Raleigh Little Theatre presents the third Triangle production since 2011 of this apparently much-beloved classic. Directed by L.D. Burris. This week: Friday and Saturday 8:00, Sunday 3:00. Continues through September 7. Sutton Theatre, RLT, Raleigh.

* Crimes of the Heart – Theatre Raleigh presents Beth Henley’s venerable 1979 play about three sisters in a dysfunctional Southern family. No director listed. This week: Wednesday-Friday 8:00, Saturday 2:00 and 8:00, Sunday 3:00. Continues through August 24. Kennedy Theatre, DECPA, Raleigh.

The Painted Bird – Paperhand Puppet Intervention’s 15th annual outdoor giant puppet production. This week: Friday and Saturday 7:00, Sunday 3:00 and 7:00 (pre-shows at 6:20). Continues through September 7, Forest Theatre, UNC Campus, Chapel Hill. Moves to NC Museum of Art September 12-14.


* The Guy Show – Four guys standing around improving – two from Third Date plus two former members of Transactors – for a show exploring “what it means to be a man in the world today”. This weekend only: Friday and Saturday 8:00. Common Ground Theatre, Durham.

* A Night of New Plays – Reading of two new works by Anthony Copian-Garcia. One show: Friday 7:30. Kennedy-McIlwee Theatre, Thompson Hall, NCSU Campus, Raleigh.
