* KidsWrite Performance Festival – A festival of six new plays written by local student playwrights in 6th-12th grade. Presented by Burning Coal Theatre; directed by Fred Corlett and Mary Guiteras. This weekend only: Friday 7:30, Saturday 2:00 and 7:30. Burning Coal Theatre, Murphey School, Raleigh.

* Lyle the Crocodile – A bathtub-dwelling New York crocodile becomes an unlikely hero in Kevin Kling’s musical adaptation of the Bernard Waber children’s book. Presented by Applause! Cary Youth Theatre. This weekend only: Friday and Saturday 7:30, Sunday 3:00. Cary Art Center.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood – Theatre Raleigh presents a “scaled down” 90 minute version of Rupert Holmes’ 1985 musical, adapted from Charles Dickens’ unfinished final novel. No director listed. This week: Wednesday-Friday 8:00, Saturday 2:00 and 8:00, Sunday 3:00. Continues through May 22. Kennedy Theatre, DECPA, Raleigh.


Beertown – A collaborative and audience-immersive theatrical pageant/civic ceremony devised by dog and pony dc and presented by Raleigh Little Theatre. Director: Rachel Grossman. This week: Thursday-Saturday 8:00, Sunday 3:00. Continues through May 22. Gaddy-Goodwin Theatre, RLT, Raleigh.


Raleigh Little Theatre holds auditions for its August production of the musical Memphis Sunday and Monday at 7:00, Sutton Theatre, RLT, Raleigh. More info.
