Maccountant – “What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account?” Office politics get literally cutthroat in a Wichita accounting office circa 1963. Expect Jaybird O’Berski’s adaptation of Macbeth to be full of sound and fury – as well as chainsaws, hammers, and assorted potentially lethal office supplies. Presented by Little Green Pig. This week: Thursday-Saturday 8:00. Continues through September 17. Common Ground Theatre, Durham.

The Beautiful Beast – It’s the end of summer which means it’s time for Paperhand Puppet Intervention’s annual outdoor extravaganza. This year’s show takes a look at the monsters and beasts that inhabit our dreams and folktales. This week: Friday-Monday 7:00 (pre-show starts at 6:20). Continues through September 5 at Forest Theatre, UNC Campus, Chapel Hill. Tickets at the door only, no pre-sales. Note: Saturday shows at Forest Theatre usually sell out; get there early. Creature – In 1401, a woman has visions of Jesus and Satan, and decides to become a saint. Laurel Ullman directs Heidi Schreck’s 2009 play. Co-produced by Tiny Engine Theatre and NRACT. This week: Friday and Saturday 8:00, Sunday 3:00. Continues through September 11. NRACT, Lead Mine Road, Raleigh.
Memphis – A white DJ promoting African American music falls in love with a black singer in 1950s Memphis. Raleigh Little Theatre presents David Bryan and Joe DiPietro’s 2008 musical. Directed by Patrick Torres. This week: Thursday-Saturday 8:00, Sunday 3:00. Extended through September 11. Sutton Theatre, RLT, Raleigh.
