* Temples of Lung and Air – A Hip-Hop odyssey through race and identity, written and performed by Kane Smego. Directed by Joseph Megel; presented by StreetSigns Center for Literature and Performance. In the Heart of the Fire – In their 19th annual giant puppet performance for all ages, Paperhand Puppet Intervention presents tales of fire, of giants and trolls, of trickster creators, and how we came to be human. This week: Friday-Sunday 7:00. Preshows at 6:20. Continues through September 3, plus September 14-23 at Forest Theatre, UNC Campus, Chapel Hill. September 7-9 at NC Museum of Art, Raleigh.
* It’s Only a Play – Eight white people – a producer, playwright, director, assorted actors, and friends – gather at a New York apartment for the opening night party of a Broadway play they are involved in. Theatre in the Park presents Terrence McNally’s 1982 comedy, directed by Jesse R. Gephart. This week: Friday and Saturday 7:30, Sunday 3:00. Closes Sunday. TIP, Raleigh.
Sister Act – Nun run: A club singer witnesses a murder and goes into hiding at a convent. Hijinks ensue. Raleigh Little Theatre presents the 2006 musical adaptation of the 1992 film. Directed by Nancy Rich. This week: Thursday-Saturday 8:00, Sunday 3:00. Continues through September 9. Sutton Theatre, RLT, Raleigh.
